i. There shall be age relaxation in respect of the Scientists already working on regular basis in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and its organizations as per the extant rules in vogue from time to time in the Central Government.
ii. The upper age limit in respect of the Schedule Castes, the Schedule Tribes, Ex-servicemen, Other backward Classes, Orthopedically handicapped and other special categories of persons shall be relaxable in accordance with the orders issued by the Central Government from time to time in this regard.
iii. The Central Government may relax the upper age limit for all categories in case of highly experienced candidates in specialized scientific areas.

NIC Scientist C and Scientist D Selection Process

| For Post of Scientist-C and Scientist-D |
| Direct recruitment will be done through a three-stage process: Screening Test, Evaluation of academic records, followed by Personal Interaction / Interview. |
| All eligible candidates who have successfully submitted the online application along with required fee and are screened in shall be called for the Screening Test. |
| Based on the result of the screening test and evaluation of academic records, candidates will be called for personal interaction/interview. |
| The screening test will be of qualifying nature and comprise Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) on Reasoning, Basic Mathematics, English, Aptitude, Attitude and Leadership Quality. |
| The test will be objective type, conducted in online mode, and each question will carry 1 mark. |
| The screening test will consist of 150 MCQs to be answered within 3 hours. |
| The medium of screening test shall be English only. |
| Candidates must secure minimum 60% marks to become eligible to fill the second phase (main application form) for Scientist C and Scientist D posts. |
| If sufficient candidates are not available in OBC, SC, ST and PWD categories, qualifying marks may be relaxed to 50% for OBC and 40% for SC/ST/PWD categories. |
| The list of qualified candidates will be restricted to a 1:6 ratio (six candidates per post) in order of merit in each category (UR/SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PWD) for the first stage. |
| Applications qualifying the first phase (Screening Test) will be evaluated by an evaluation committee, and marks will be awarded for various parameters as per Annexure I and Annexure II (available with full advertisement). |
| A merit list of shortlisted candidates will be prepared based on marks obtained out of 120 marks (excluding 30 marks for interview). |
| Candidates in the ratio of 1:3 will be called for personal interaction/interview, i.e. three candidates per post in order of merit. |
| Final merit list will be prepared out of 150 marks = Evaluation (max 120 marks) + Interview (max 30 marks). |
The person selected may be posted anywhere in India and outside India in the interest of the Organization.
