Govt Announces GST Reforms to Boost Cooperatives & Rural Economy
The government has announced sweeping GST reforms aimed at strengthening the cooperative sector, making products more competitive, and raising rural incomes. Under the changes, milk and paneer are exempted from GST, while the tax on butter, ghee, and similar products has been reduced from 12% to 5%. GST cuts also cover milk cans, tractors below 1800 cc, and key fertiliser inputs, benefiting over 10 crore dairy farmers, cooperatives, and small rural enterprises, while promoting affordable nutrition, sustainable farming, and women-led self-help groups.
Housing Minister Manohar Lal launched Angikaar 2025 to boost awareness, fast-track verification, and expedite completion of houses under PM Awas Yojana–Urban 2.0. Under PMAY-U, one crore 20 lakh houses have been sanctioned, out of which over 94 lakh pucca houses have already been completed and delivered to beneficiaries. The Ministry said, Angikaar campaign will facilitate the completion of the remaining houses.

The Union Cabinet approved a ₹1,500 crore Incentive Scheme under the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM) to build recycling capacity for extracting critical minerals from e-waste, LIB scrap, and other sources. The 6-year scheme (FY 2025-26 to 2030-31) offers Capex and Opex subsidies to boost new and existing units. It aims to create 270 KT recycling capacity, produce 40 KT critical minerals annually, attract ₹8,000 crore investment, and generate 70,000 jobs.
UIDAI recorded over 221 crore Aadhaar authentication transactions in August, highlighting the digital economy’s growth.
